Its great message is that God never fails those who love and serve Him. The story's special meaning for today is stressed by opening and closing scenes in a modern Jewish home. It is the Feast of Purim when the Book of Esther is opened and read to recall the Jews' rescue from death at Shushan. Ruth: This is the story of Ruth, a young widow from the heathen land of Moab. It reflects on her devotion to her mother-in-law Naomi, her marriage to the rich landowner Boaz, and her faith in the one true God. The Old Testament Book of Ruth is a tender, insightful account of the meaning of faith. The story ends with God's promise that from the descendants of Ruth will come the Messiah.
