GOD STILL HEALS people. Songwriters Keith and Melody Green witnessed this first hand. While yet new converts to Christianity, they talked a few friends into riding over to Las Vegas for a night of fun. On the way they prayed and sang and read the Bible.

Keith saw a couple hitchhikers ahead in the dark and prayed that someone would give them a lift. Suddenly he slammed on the brakes, saying God had told him the “someone” was themselves.

As they talked to the young couple, Scott and Lori, they learned that Lori had a massive blood clot in her brain. Because doctors could not operate to remove the clot, they had given her just six months to live.

After losing money at the tables, the group lolled around in a room and began praying for each other. Melody felt led to ask Lori if she wanted them to pray for her.

When she said yes, the Christians laid their hands on her and prayed.

Lori began to cry.

“Why?” asked Keith.

“It’s gone! The clot is gone!” She hit her head repeatedly where the problem had been, unable to feel the clot any more.

That night she threw away her blood thinners.

Two weeks later Scott and Lori visited the Greens at the Vineyard group they attended in California. Lori recounted to the assembly what had happened on her first visit to her doctor after her healing. At first she had said nothing to him about the miracle. He came out with an X-ray and clipped it to a light box, asking her what she saw. When she replied “Nothing,” he agreed and added that these things don’t just go away.

He brought in three other experts. Only then did Lori share her testimony of healing. The doctors left baffled. Her doctor told her to make another appointment, but it had to be with someone else. He was so upset he no longer wanted to see her.

Keith and Melody Green went on to live lives of deep commitment, helping addicts and outcasts at great personal financial cost and loss of privacy until their marriage was cut short by an accident. Keith, along with two of his children, the pilot, and eight members of the John and Dede Smalley family died in a plane crash on this day, 28 July 1982. Melody later wrote a memoir, No Compromise.
