Lyman Beecher, Charles Finney, and other Presbyterians hold a colloquium at New Lebanon, New York, in an attempt to define acceptable revivalist practices. The meeting runs through July 25th and produces no agreement. An attempt to condemn some of Finney’s revival practices is countered by his call to condemn lukewarmness in religion.
